Committee Listing and Volunteers

2024-25 Boyce PTO Committees

We're planning for the school year!  Want to help out with the PTO?

  • Seeking various 2024-25 Committee Chairs

If you are interested in assisting with any of the various committees or have any questions, please contact PTO Advisor (BoycePTOAdvisor@gmail.com).

Committee

Description

After School Activities

Chair would reach out to local organizations (eg. USC Library, Rec Center, local businesses) to obtain offerings/costs, propose them to the PTO board for approval, and coordinate parent volunteers/student sign-ups.

Arts in USC

The USC PTC sponsors a creative art competition for both grades. This committee distributes flyers to students, advertises the event, submits the entries to the USC PTC Arts in USC chair, and helps hang up the entries for the event.

Author Day

Work with the Boyce librarian to plan and organize a school-wide program centering on an author’s presentation to the students. This program typically occurs in the Spring and is led by the Librarian.

Band

Assist the band director by organizing parent volunteers to help with the annual Winter and Spring concerts. Ideally, we have a 5th grade chair and a 6th grade chair who will work together to help with the concerts.

Book Fair

Work with Scholastic Books and the librarian to organize and staff a book fair in late September. Committee is responsible for recruiting volunteers, setting up the fair, assisting students during the sale, distributing ordered books and packing unsold merchandise after the sale is complete. The Boyce Book Fair runs during the fall Open House, so chairs will likely miss some or all of Open House, unless committee volunteers are able to run the fair at that time.

Boyce Pride

Work with the PTO teacher representative to coordinate the monthly school-wide student recognition program. Will also be responsible for taking group photos of the recognized students and submitting them to the yearbook chair.

Chorus

Assist the choral director by organizing parent volunteers to help with the annual winter and spring concerts. Ideally, we would have both a 5th and 6th grade parent chairperson who will work together to help with the concerts.

Deer Valley Fundraiser

Work with teacher representatives to organize a fall and spring fundraiser benefiting students' trip accounts. Recruit volunteers and oversee the kick-off, tally day and distribution of products.

Display Case

Update the main display cases in the Boyce lobby highlighting student activities and events. Display cases should be changed every month or two.

Family

Welcome Day

Coordinate a back to school welcome day with Dr. O’Rourke and display case chairs. This event takes place before school begins and is instrumental in collecting membership fee. This event is chaired by the incoming PTO President, but volunteers are needed to help.

Field Day

Coordinate with the physical education teachers to organize and staff special outdoor games and activities for a day long, school-wide event. This is typically held the last week of school.

Membership

Work with the PTO Treasurer in collecting dues and creating a membership roster. Must attend the Welcome Day (typically the week prior to school) event and be available during the first week of school to distribute binder reminder planners to students in the mornings.

Orchestra

Assist the orchestra director by organizing parent volunteers to help with 2 scheduled concerts. Ideally, we would have both 5th and 6th grade chairpersons who will work together to help with the concerts.

Outreach

An integral part of Boyce Middle School. The Outreach Committee provides support to Boyce Guidance Counselors and Staff. This opens up opportunities for students and families to give to others, in our community and surrounding communities, through various charities.

Spirit Nights

Intended to help raise money for Boyce through shopping rewards programs such Spirit Nights. The chairperson will use e-alerts to raise awareness and encourage participation in these programs. This position may also schedule spirit nights at local restaurants, subject to discuss with PTO executive board.

6th grade

Graduation

Party

Organize a special party for the 6th grade class. Reserve the vendors and location, recruit volunteers to assist with planning the party, and recruit volunteers to help the night of the party. Party takes place at Ft. Couch in early June.

Spelling Bee

Coordinates the Boyce spelling bee with the PTC Chair. Prepare a flyer to be posted on the website, manage registration, and determine with the Principal and PTO president if a written test is necessary. Coordinate pronouncer and judge. Must attend the spelling bee. Bee takes place in January.

Spirit Wear

Arrange a sale of the USC/Boyce merchandise in the fall and the spring. Responsibilities include contacting a clothing supplier, choosing items, distributing flyers, placing orders and distributing orders.

Staff

Appreciation

Plan, organize, and set up several appreciation days for the Boyce staff. There are 4 events planned for the year. The first event is a welcome back theme in September, followed by a holiday event in December. An event in February/March will take place and the year ends with an event in May. Must coordinate events and collect monetary and food donations.

STEAM

Only one chairperson needed. Provide support for the Steam program at Boyce. This is an easy position that organizes, with Mr. Henderson, a drive for kids to bring in items to be used in the STEAM lab. It is a drive for household items and lasts about two weeks.

Student

Council

A new committee created to support the mission of Boyce Middle School. The Student Council Chair/Committee provides support to Student Council Teacher Representatives. This opens up opportunities for students and families to show their appreciation to the Boyce Middle School community through various

community service projects and National Days (ie: Bus Driver Appreciation).

Yearbook

Plan, organize, and coordinate the publication of the Boyce yearbook. This includes taking photos at all events (or obtaining photos from Boyce staff/ students), laying out the book, and promoting the online sale of the yearbook. If you enjoy making photo albums through sites like snapfish, this is very similar. Technical and sales help will be available though our Herff Jones representative. Yearbook must be completed and submitted by early April.
