Welcome to the Sixth Grade as a part of the best 6th grade team. It is our goal to lead each student to a productive and successful year. In order for this to occur, we need to begin by focusing on organizational skills.

To get each student organized, we are asking parents to assist their students in putting together a “School Survival Kit,” which will help students become organizational survivors at school and at home. It is our hope that students are prepared with these supplies EACH DAY in order to minimize time spent looking for supplies and assignments.  It is our hope that parents will make sure their children are equipped with all the necessary supplies throughout THE ENTIRE YEAR, even after we are well beyond the early stages.  

Listed below are the items we strongly suggest should be part of each student’s “School Survival Kit.” We recognize the school has already sent out a general list of supplies for 6th graders. While mostly the same, we are hoping this list provides more clarity and detail.

Energy Items NOT on the Boyce List:  

• Student Agenda Calendar (provided by Boyce PTO)
• SSR books (It is unacceptable not to have a novel from library or home to read every single day!)  
• 3 pocket folders for use throughout the school year       (We may use these for special subjects, team projects and just to keep organized in general.)  
• 3 Checking Pens (different colors)  
• 1 Permanent Marker or Sharpie  
• 1 Handheld Pencil Sharpener  
• stylus (cheap extras are good to have…NO FINGER WRITING!)  
• 1 bottle hand sanitizer for your child to keep in locker

• Subject Binder(s) (You may have one large binder with dividers or a binder for each subject.)  
• 5 Tab dividers  
• Assorted colored highlighters (We use these all year. Keep stocked!)  
• 2 Dry Erase Markers and 1 Dry Erase eraser  
• Box of Colored Pencils  
• 3 wide-ruled Composition Books (used in ELA/Science/Social Studies)  
• Ream of loose leaf note paper (replenish throughout the year)  
• TI-34 Calculator (You must have this specific calculator all year!)  
• Set of earbuds or headphones
