What is an Earthwarden?

We believe the Earthwarden Program will help our students better understand the basic life support systems of the earth. During the program, the students study air, water, soil, recycling, energy flow, and wildlife. More importantly, the students are afforded the opportunity to develop an appreciation for and a positive attitude toward the earth. The Earthwarden Program will also enable the students to continue to develop social skills and grow emotionally by being away from home and by being placed in a situation that demands that they interact with many adult personalities and their peers.

Another important component of the Earthwarden Program is personal actions. We encourage the students to commit themselves to three separate actions that will improve the quality of the environment or share their appreciation of the earth with others. The students may complete their three actions and demonstrate evidence that they have done so in the weeks following their trip.  We are hopeful that, after the students have experienced the Earthwarden Program, they will understand that all life on this earth is interdependent and that our actions on the earth, big or small, do make a difference. It is our goal that each student and adult leave the program with a positive attitude toward the environment and a commitment to making Earth a better place to live.
